Okay, you know way back when (you mean, back when you were actually blogging, hmm?) (stuff it, guilty conscience, this is important)…

Anyway, some indeterminate time ago I entered a short story in the Bad Austen contest and was chosen as one of the stories included in the anthology. Once the jubilation wore off, I promptly forgot all about it. Granted, there were other–more adrenaline inducing–things going on in my writing universe (*waves at Brianne Mulligan, agent extraordinaire*), but still.

Well, I was chatting on gchat with a lovely friend who happened to ask in passing, “Did you see the Austen book is out?” I had not seen this. Had she not mentioned it, I would have continued my existence as if I’d never entered the contest (at least until my complimentary copies arrived on my doorstep). But now I am excited.

Look:

Amazon says it has copies available, but it’s not supposed to be out until November 15th. The Canadian online retailers have it listed as a pre-order, so I’m not sure if it came out early in the US, or if Amazon is being sneaky with it’s whole “in stock” with only 5 copies left bit…

Regardless, the book will be out in less than a month!

John and Rebeccah will have their tale of romance splashed across the universe!

I received my first round of line edits for The Firestorm Conspiracy on Monday and sent them back last night. Within minutes of ending my conversation with Jason Ashlock and Brianne Mulligan this morning (more on this later), I received a couple of amazing emails from Lyrical Press.

The first email included an attachment: my cover.

ZOMG, I love it! I think it’s absolutely gorgeous. I don’t think they could have effectively captured the image of an avian or the ship without it looking hokey. And to put John or Rebeccah on the cover when it really is an ensemble book wouldn’t work well either.

This cover captures the essence of the sci-fi element of the story. Yes, it’s vague, but damn it, it’s frikking gorgeous. There’s a majesty and beauty to the scene that I think will appeal to anyone who enjoys those grand old space romps. And the font? Can you say ‘Trek’? Which, really, is a great idea to put into a reader’s head – this is an ensemble group, and we’re just going to assume space travel and aliens exist.

I love it.

I can’t stop grinning every time I see it.

Can you believe my NaNoWriMo 2009 novel is coming out in less than three months?

I wrote 1331 words of John and Rebeccah last night, and I *squeed* over every single one. I decided to write a scene I wanted to write rather than force myself to go in chronological order. I wasn’t able to finish the scene, so that will be my number one priority for this evening. I may continue my wanton ways and write another scene – because I want to – and leave the whole “plot” thing until later.

I am very much a planner when it comes to writing, so it will be interesting to see how this random scene-writing frenzy affects the overall feel of the book. I still know where I want to go (and how I want to end the book – hee hee hee!), but the path from A to B is no longer a contiguous, let alone straight, line.
